When insulating wooden frames, three methods are usually used: using rubber bands, sealing the gaps between the frames and gluing them with strips of paper, tape or fabric. Materials for insulating windows are sold in hardware stores; they are a narrow sealing tape with an adhesive layer of foam rubber or soft polymer. Sealing tapes made of polymer materials can be used for several years, while you can open windows and wash them without removing the tape. However, it is very effective for old frames that are soon to be replaced - it is often impossible to insulate them using sealing tape, and putties and alabaster mortar perfectly seal the space between the frames.

You can also use moisture-resistant sealants for exterior use, but choose white or colorless ones. The sealant is applied directly from the tube, covering all the cracks, as well as the joints of the glass and frame.

Cardinal method of window insulation
