Penetrating concrete waterproofing. Penetrating waterproofing: characteristics and technology for protecting basements Mechanism of penetrating action

Waterproofing is one of the the best ways protection of foundations from harmful effects groundwater. Moisture can destroy not only classic brick or rubble masonry, due to its chemical properties Over time, water also destroys durable concrete and destroys the reinforcement frame of the base. It is necessary to select waterproofing taking into account the climate of the region and the type of foundation.

Main types of foundation waterproofing

There are three main types of coatings that can protect the foundation from moisture:

  1. Coating. These are special waterproof coatings that create a waterproofing layer no more than 3 mm thick. They are made from bitumen (a solid or resin-like product) with the addition of polymer resins and essential oils, rigid and elastic polymer-cement compositions. The main purpose is to prevent capillary penetration of moisture into the concrete structure; they are applied using a spatula or roller. In some cases, when coating waterproofing It is supplied in the form of a suspension and is applied by spraying.
  2. The adhesive waterproofing of the foundation is a built-up layer. This group of products includes roofing felt, various types of penetrating membranes and bitumen polymers. The peculiarity is that they are all produced on the basis of bitumen, so for more high-quality pasting materials need to be heated. In terms of price, glued foundation waterproofing is cheap; its disadvantage is a possible violation of the tightness and penetration of moisture through the joints.
  3. Penetrating waterproofing, its second name is plaster. These are materials that are produced on the basis of cement with the addition of various composite compositions and are applied to the surface in the form of a solution. In most cases, these are powders. Sold in bags, before use they need to be diluted in water and applied with a spatula like regular plaster. The average thickness of the coating is 5-15 mm, it copes well with capillary moisture, but is not very resistant to mechanical damage, and over time, cracks appear on the coating.

The choice of this type of waterproofing is quite large; almost all of them are made on a mineral basis, therefore they are environmentally friendly.

Penetrating waterproofing - principle of operation

Concrete is a porous material, inside of which there are specific micro-channels through which moisture can penetrate inside. Such micro-channels can be closed only by external high-quality treatment. Moisture, entering the middle of the concrete foundation, after freezing, expands to significant volumes and destroys the concrete from the inside. It gradually destroys the internal structure of concrete and slowly reaches the reinforcement frame. If metal corrosion begins, it is almost impossible to stop it, and within a few years the destruction of the foundation will begin.

Built-up waterproofing is not suitable for all types of foundations. It is often used as an external protective layer for other insulations.

Modern types of pasting or coating materials are not resistant to mechanical stress and only cover outer surface foundation, practically without penetrating into the pores.

Penetrating waterproofing, in turn, due to the formation of crystals of water-insoluble mineral salts, gets inside the pores and clogs them, protecting the integrity of the concrete. Crystals are able to fill even minimal porous channels and water leakage no longer occurs through the increased surface tension of the water surface. That is why the choice of penetrating waterproofing is justified.

Penetrating waterproofing is a cement-based mineral mixture with synthetic additives. polymer materials and resins. If they are applied to a cold, damp surface, the crystals will grow almost continuously, so even after mechanical damage to the coating, the waterproofing will quickly recover. This type The protective coating also copes well with seasonal temperature changes. Note that this is an environmentally friendly material that can be used both outside and indoors. Some suspensions can be applied by spraying, but they are expensive and are used more on large concrete surfaces.

Types and purpose of the base protective layer

Based on its composition and purpose, penetrating foundation waterproofing is divided into types:

  1. An aqueous solution that is applied with a brush or spray. It is used mainly on new surfaces that do not have visible damage or large cracks.
  2. The mixture is dry and must first be diluted with water to a paste consistency. Applied with a spatula, used for repair and restoration waterproofing works, can also be used as a primary layer before installing roofing felt.
  3. Waterproofing seams. This is a cement mixture used exclusively for tightening seams and cracks.

On the waterproofing materials market, liquid mixtures are considered the best; they perfectly cover porous surfaces. concrete base and penetrate to a depth of up to half a meter. Liquid penetrating foundation waterproofing is resistant to atmospheric and mechanical influences, it does not dissolve in acids, alkalis and is almost impossible to destroy. After treating a wet surface, a durable crystallization layer is formed, which has the ability to recover.

Application is carried out in four stages:

  1. The surface of the foundation must first be cleaned of dust, grease and old bitumen. Then treat the concrete under pressure with water so that it penetrates deep into the pores. Clean the protruding parts of the fittings from rust and treat them with anti-corrosion compounds.
  2. Mix the composition with water until a medium-density suspension is achieved.
  3. Apply the composition in two layers to the concrete surface, the interval between applications should be at least 6 hours.
  4. Before applying the second layer, it is recommended to brush the first one to ensure penetration of the next layer of waterproofing.

If liquid composition it is necessary to restore the waterproofing layer of the destroyed foundation, then the mixture is diluted to a thick paste-like mass and applied with a spatula. Decorative coatings can be applied over waterproofing only after a month.

Foundation repair using penetrating waterproofing

The essence of the method is that some special mixtures tend to quickly harden under the influence of water, forming a durable concrete plug in places where the base is deformed:

  1. The crack or seam must first be widened, deepened and cleaned of dust and foreign objects.
  2. Then prepare a thick paste and mold it into a plug in the shape of a hole in the concrete. All work must be carried out as quickly as possible, since the mixture dries quite quickly.
  3. Place the plug in the gulley, hold it with your hands or heavy materials at hand for several minutes. This time will be enough for active crystallization to begin; the mixture may heat up significantly during this time.

The surface of the gulley is leveled with a compound and treated with liquid penetrating waterproofing.

Advantages and disadvantages

This is the best way to protect the foundation from moisture in porous micro-channels:

  1. A deep waterproofing layer can be formed.
  2. This is one of the few waterproofing materials that can be successfully used for treating indoor residential premises, since the waterproofing does not form volatile substances hazardous to health.
  3. Can be applied to wet surfaces regardless of the direction of groundwater movement.

The disadvantages include:

  1. Provides protection of porous micro-channels from moisture only concrete structures, is not suitable for processing brick and rubble foundations.
  2. Penetrating waterproofing can only be used on crack-resistant concrete foundations.
  3. Cannot be used for waterproofing structures made of porous materials.
  4. Cannot be applied to prefabricated strip foundations due to the presence of too large seams between the blocks.

In addition to dry mixtures, which are then diluted with water, for greater efficiency it is also advisable to use adhesive waterproofing. Then both layers of material will provide maximum reliability and protection from moisture. Some types of waterproofing are also added to the concrete before it is prepared and poured. Then you get a material that is resistant to moisture, mechanically strong and inert towards contaminated water. When applying penetrating waterproofing, you must remember the safety rules and wear rubber gloves and goggles.

Dry penetrating waterproofing“Plombizol penetrating” produced by Technoprok, intended for impregnation of concrete of various building structures from inside and outside the building. Including penetrating Plombizol, it is used to obtain a hydrophobic coating in rooms below ground level to resist water pressure from the outside.

"Plombizol penetrating" is a dry mixture based on cement based, which, after mixing with water, is used for penetrating (preventive) waterproofing of concrete. The mixture is applied in the absence of active leaks.

If there is already a stream of water coming from the basement wall, then penetrating waterproofing will not help. In this case, first of all, the fountain should be “turned off” by plugging it with a hydroseal plug.

Plombizol penetrating (penetrating mixture) increases the water resistance of the concrete structure due to the clogging of pores with water-insoluble complex compounds formed in the pores due to the diffusion of saturated solutions inside the porous structure. Microcracks are also healed with insoluble crystalline complexes. Compaction of the microstructure of concrete due to the overgrowing of capillary pores helps to increase its durability.

Composition and properties of penetrating waterproofing

The basis of the penetrating dry waterproofing “Plombizol penetrating” is a mixture of Portland cement grade 500 with quartz sand and additives. Bulk density 1.1 kg/l.

Penetrating waterproofing mixture used in the form of an aqueous suspension, which is applied to the insulated surface.

Helps increase the water resistance of concrete by 0.6-0.8 MPa in a few weeks. For example, the water resistance of concrete with the original grade W4 28 days after covering the surface with the “Plombizol penetrating” suspension increases to W12 - W14.

The compressive strength of samples prepared from a thick aqueous suspension of the dry mixture “Plombizol penetrating” is 18 MPa after 7 days, and at least 25 MPa after 28 days.

  • Consumption when applied with a brush: 0.8 - 1.2 kg per 1 m2 of surface.
  • Consumption when applied by spray: 0.8 kg per 1 m2 of surface.

By increasing the water resistance of the porous structure of concrete, penetrating waterproofing “Plombizol penetrating” simultaneously increases the frost resistance of concrete.

All work related to the implementation of penetrating waterproofing is carried out only at above-zero temperatures, since the water in the pores of concrete must be in a “drip-liquid” state. The processes of absorption into capillary pores and precipitation of water-insoluble complexes in them in winter, due to freezing of water, are temporarily suspended and resumed after the ice melts. Detailed recommendations on the use of penetrating waterproofing for concrete are outlined on the www.site.

The penetrating waterproofing mixture “Plombizol penetrating” should be stored in a closed container in dry conditions. The guaranteed shelf life in undamaged original packaging is 12 months. The material is supplied in plastic containers of 5 and 15 kg. Each bucket is supplied detailed instructions by application.

Penetrating waterproofing of the underground part of buildings from the inside

Of particular note are the capabilities of the penetrating mixture for waterproofing from the inside. Here it should be understood that waterproofing from the inside of underground premises has its own specifics. Therefore, the easiest and most reliable way is to do underground waterproofing from the outside. For example, during the construction phase of a house, the foundation is insulated from the outside, for which liquid rubber is excellent.

The simplest, most inexpensive and fastest alternative is to treat the inside of basements with Plombizol dry waterproofing mixtures. Essentially, the task comes down to “plastering” the walls with expanding and/or “painting” penetrating waterproofing for concrete.

In essence, penetrating waterproofing Plombizol is “insurance” that the basement will always be dry. If there is no confidence in the quality and reliability of the external waterproofing of the foundation, then it makes sense to apply Penetrating Plombizol to the walls, EVEN IF THEY ARE DRY. They are dry today, and tomorrow (after heavy rains or heavy melting of snow) will be wet. And then moisture will ooze out of them or water will flow in a stream. To avoid this, it is enough to treat all concrete surfaces of the basement (or underground parking or tunnel or other room below ground level) from the inside penetrating waterproofing.

Penetrating waterproofing of liquid containers from the inside and outside

Very often waterproofing of concrete pools, tanks, wells, sewers, etc. is required. Moreover, applying a protective layer is possible both outside and inside. Penetrating waterproofing works well for this task.

If the tank is new and water has not yet been filled, then it would be very wise to treat the floor (bottom) and walls of the bowl with a penetrating compound. This, in a way, is a guarantee that water will not leak out of there. And it makes no difference: it is a well made of concrete rings, a swimming pool with drinking water or fire tank. Simply apply Plombizol Penetrating from the inside before filling with water for the first time.

If possible, it makes sense to treat the concrete outside as well. This will protect the structure from moisture from the outside. But still, the main “load” on the concrete will be due to the liquid that is constantly in the bowl, therefore, it is necessary to treat it from the inside, and preferably from the outside.

For external waterproofing during the construction and repair phase (if there is access from the outside), liquid waterproofing materials (mastics and emulsions) and dry waterproofing mixtures are used.

It is more difficult if the container is already in use and access from the outside is impossible, and the water “leaves” from the concrete bowl. In this case, concrete repair is required. The water should be drained. Then, by visual inspection, detect damage in the concrete. All holes, cavities and cracks should be sealed with pressure Plombizol (hydraulic seal). Then rub the entire surface with an expanding compound. Then treat the concrete with penetrating waterproofing.

Therefore, it is easier, faster and cheaper to process new concrete tank before starting operation with penetrating waterproofing, rather than then draining the water and repairing it successively with pressure, expanding and penetrating compounds.

Penetrating waterproofing Plombizol for concrete is used for tanks for various purposes, both for household needs and for drinking water and aquaculture. This mixture is environmentally friendly. You can view the certificate

Traditional roll and mastic protective materials based on polymers, polymer resins and bitumen mastics with all their doubts positive qualities have one significant drawback: creating a dense, durable protective film, they work regardless of the material of the protected structure due to the incompatibility of their deformable properties. During operation, this leads to their detachment from the insulated surface with the subsequent loss of their functional purpose.

When working with such materials, significant technological problems arise - the need for a thoroughly dried surface, strict adherence technological parameters, the difficulty of working with concrete structures, where during the period of work there are open leaks, influx of water along the seams, joints, etc.

More promising are penetrating materials that penetrate the capillary-porous structure cement concrete protected structure, followed by filling microscopic pores and voids with crystalline hydrates. As a result, a layer of increased impermeability is created in the concrete to a certain depth. This leads to an improvement in a number of characteristics of the concrete structure.

Such waterproofing protects structures from water and aggressive media (gasoline, oils, petroleum products), without excluding vapor permeability. The depth of waterproofing impregnation can reach several centimeters.

When mechanical damage surface, its waterproofing and protective properties do not change. Penetrating waterproofing can be used on both old and new concrete and does not require special protection when construction work, ensures the safety of not only the concrete itself, but also the steel reinforcement. An important advantage is that the material is successfully used on wet or freshly laid concrete.

Penetrating materials, regardless of the manufacturer, have the same basic composition: standard grade cement, quartz sand certain fractions and active chemical substances. It is these active additives, which are the company’s know-how, that make up the main difference between the materials. Although in addition to this, there are also differences in the method of mixing, the quality of cement and sand used, and the control of temperature and humidity in the production room.

The technology for using these materials is also the same. On construction site the dry mixture only needs to be diluted with water to the required consistency. Surface preparation before applying penetrating waterproofing and the application method are also identical for materials from all companies. Ready mixes of this group are applied with a brush or spray to a damp surface (Fig. 5.37).

The first material of this group to appear in the Far Eastern region was the American Penetron. Then the Russian Colmatron, Hydrotex, etc. appeared. In the western regions of the country, Vandex-super (Switzerland), Xaypex (Canada), Lakhta (Russia), etc. are known. Let us explain the mechanism of action and surface preparation before treatment using the example of Penetron.

Rice. 5.37. Wetting the surface and applying Colmatron spray coating

When Penetron is applied to a thoroughly moistened surface, its chemical reagents interact with ionic complexes of calcium and aluminum, various oxides and metal salts contained in concrete, forming insoluble crystalline formations in the form of needle-shaped, randomly located crystals (Fig. 5.38).

Rice. 5.38. Crystalline formations of Penetron in concrete 14–28 days after application

This process occurs not only on the surface of the concrete and adjacent areas, but also extends deep into the concrete structure, mainly due to osmotic pressure. Thus aligning the high chemical potential of the surface with the low potential of the internal structure, new formations rush into the inner layers. These chemical reactions occur under both positive and negative water pressure. In the absence of moisture, the components are inactive. When moisture appears, the reactions resume and the growth of crystals in depth continues, due to which the capillaries of the pore structure of concrete are blocked (Fig. 5.39).

Rice. 5.39. Scheme of Penetron operation for insulating concrete, cracks and open leaks

The rate and depth of growth of Penetron crystals depend on many factors, in particular on the density and porosity of concrete. In some cases, the penetration depth can reach 90 cm. Penetron becomes an integral part of concrete, forming a single whole with it. Crystalline neoplasms of Penetron block the penetration of water, maintaining vapor permeability. The success of penetration also depends on surface preparation. Before using Penetron, it is necessary to clean the concrete surface from dust, dirt, oil products, cement laitance, efflorescence and any foreign substances that may interfere with the penetration of the material and the formation of crystals. The surface of the concrete must have open capillaries, so absolutely smooth polished surfaces must be treated with water or sand under high pressure or other acceptable mechanically. Before applying Penetron, the concrete surface is thoroughly moistened.

The amount of water to obtain a solution of the required consistency is determined depending on the method of applying the solution and the type of surface being treated. You should prepare such an amount of solution that can be used within 30 minutes. During use, the solution must be stirred regularly, avoiding repeated addition of water.

Penetron is recommended to be applied as a liquid solution in two layers. Consumption depends on the surface topography. The average consumption of dry mixture per 1 m2 is from 0.8 to 1.2 kg (0.4–0.6 kg/m2 per layer). The second layer should be applied on top of the fresh but already set first layer (usually after 1-2 hours, but not later than 6 hours). The surface must be damp before applying the second coat. Penetron is applied with a brush from synthetic fiber or using spray equipment. Work on preparing and applying the composition is carried out using rubber gloves. Both Penetron, Colmatron, and Hydrotex are divided into several types and are used depending on the situation.

Only concrete surfaces of prefabricated and monolithic structures. All joints, seams, abutments, cavities in concrete structures, utility entries and existing cracks are insulated using Penecrete. To instantly eliminate leaks (even under high pressure) of water through cracks, joints and holes in any structures made of concrete, stone and brick, the company recommends Peneplug (Waterplug), for horizontal concrete surfaces during new construction - Penetron Plus, as an additive , which increases the water resistance of concrete during new construction - Penetron admix.

Using Penetron, you can also restore horizontal waterproofing (Fig. 5.40, 5.41).

Rice. 5.41. Using Penetron and Penecrit to eliminate capillary suction

Six modifications of Lakhta waterproofing, intended for various types of work, are offered by the Russian company Rastro. It is difficult to judge the benefits of any waterproofing. Let's use the data obtained at the research center "Strength" at the St. Petersburg state university communication routes (Table 5.2). The data show that the given penetrating materials are identical and their effectiveness is almost the same.

The results obtained by the author at the Far Eastern State Transport University, where Penetron, Colmatron, Hydrotex and the waterproofing “CS 3000” that appeared at dealers, were studied to the same conclusion. Except for the last one, all substances showed approximately the same results.

These data allow us to conclude that there is some generally accepted standard. The conclusion is supported by the compositions of waterproofing materials and, most importantly, the technology of their application. Even in the process of repairing old or poorly made surfaces that have significant damage, the values given in the table are sufficient to create a smooth surface. 5.2 material consumption 1.2–1.62 kg/m2.

Penetrating waterproofing for concrete- this is a set of measures that prevent the ingress of water, as well as protect the structure from the effects of aggressive environments. Waterproofing work helps to avoid corrosion, wall destruction, dampness and mold. They are carried out during the construction of concrete structures - foundations, basements, floors, walls, swimming pools, underground garages and tunnels. Also, these works can be carried out at the stage of sealing seams, joints, and ceilings.

Penetrating waterproofing products are available in powder or ready solution. The basis of any mixture, as a rule, is cement and fine quartz sand. The compositions of the mixtures differ due to various modifiers and fillers.

Penetrating mechanism

Active additives penetrate into microcracks in concrete (water repellents) to a depth of 10 to 60 cm and enter into a chemical reaction with it. At the end of the process, crystals are formed that are stronger than concrete. The crystals of the waterproofing solution do not dissolve back with water. A durable waterproof coating appears on the outside.

Double benefit

Thus, the waterproofing solution performs a double function: it clogs pores and uneven areas inside and forms a protective layer on the outside. These properties are especially beneficial for the reconstruction and restoration of concrete walls.
When water disappears, the chemical reaction stops. The next time water hits the surface, the crystallization process resumes in depth. Thus, the crystals become an integral part of the concrete structure. The degree of penetration of active substances depends on the density of the concrete, its humidity and the ambient temperature.
As a result of the use of funds penetrating waterproofing You get a coating that will become harder every day.

Pros of penetrating waterproofing

More details

Treatment with penetrating compounds significantly increases the frost resistance and water resistance of building structures, while the strength characteristics practically do not increase.

Penetrating waterproofing is insensitive to damage to the outer layer, since the waterproofing properties are distributed in depth and throughout the volume of concrete.

The porous structure of concrete stone acquires waterproof properties, but at the same time continues to remain vapor permeable (breathable)

The classic composition of penetrating waterproofing includes only environmentally friendly mineral components.

The waterproof crystalline structure formed in the pores of the cement stone is practically inseparable from it and continues to function throughout the entire life of the building structure.

Penetrating waterproofing is a volumetric material that is applied to the surface of concrete, but at the same time ensures the formation of a waterproof crystalline structure in the entire available volume of the material, which is actually limited by the dimensions of the porous system of the concrete stone and the initial supply of chemically active substances.

The material can be used under positive and negative hydrostatic pressure and applied to both the outer and inner surfaces of the structure being treated

Disadvantages of penetrating waterproofing

More details

Penetrating waterproofing is used only for materials based on cement binder (concrete, reinforced concrete, plaster and other construction mixtures). This is due to the fact that the components of cement stone are the basis for the formation of a crystalline structure in the pores of concrete, which provides high waterproof characteristics.

Penetrating waterproofing is not used to prevent water from entering through technological, including cold, seams, as well as concrete cracks, because the process of germination of a crystalline structure can only develop within a single, connected system of pores. Special suture materials are used to waterproof seams and technological openings.

Penetrating waterproofing does not prevent water from entering through newly formed cracks, incl. shrinkage and structural defects of building structures. Therefore, when carrying out work on external waterproofing buildings and structures, the use of penetrating compounds is recommended in combination with elastic waterproofing materials.

Penetrating waterproofing does not work effectively in porous cement-containing materials with compressive strength characteristics less than 150 MPa.

Instructions for use (abstract) of penetrating waterproofing:

The information is intended to be familiar with general principles application of penetrating waterproofing.
When carrying out work, you must follow the instructions placed directly on the packaging of the material used, as well as in the corresponding section of our website.
More details

Surface preparation:

  1. The material is used exclusively for processing concrete or other bases made on the basis of a cement binder, because the presence of calcium is prerequisite formation of a waterproofing crystalline structure.
  2. During preparation, it is necessary to ensure maximum opening of the pores on the treated surface and its abundant moisture, since the presence of water molecules is another prerequisite for the formation of a waterproofing crystalline structure, and its growth and development occurs directly in the pores of the concrete stone. Presence of contamination of different nature unacceptable.
  3. The material is not intended for waterproofing seams and cracks with an opening of more than 0.4 mm, therefore, to prevent the entry of water, these defects must be reliably waterproofed in advance with suture or repair materials.

Preparation of penetrating waterproofing.

  1. Use only clean drinking water, because the presence of foreign impurities of organic and inorganic origin has a harmful effect on the course of chemical processes in modern multicomponent compositions and significantly reduces the final water resistance of the building structure.
  2. Care should be taken to fulfill the requirements for intermediate holding of the solution, aimed at ensuring better dissolution of, as a rule, a small amount of modifying or chemically active components, initially in dry form, and achieving uniform distribution throughout the entire volume of the solution.
  3. It is prohibited to add water to the solution in excess of the technological norm, because the presence of excess water leads not only to a decrease in the ease of application of the solution, but also to serious deterioration technical characteristics material. Please note that the consistency of the solution changes significantly during mixing and until all additives are completely dissolved it may look quite hard.
  4. If the temperature of the mixing water significantly deviates from the norm, an imbalance occurs in all time parameters of mixing and hardening of the solution, which should be taken into account when applying the material and carrying out further work.

Applying a penetrating waterproofing solution:

The requirements when applying the solution are related to ensuring the most active interaction of the chemically active part of the solution with the surface being treated.
  1. The solution should be in close contact with the base over the entire area of the treated surface.
  2. The thickness of the working layer must be uniform and correspond to the material consumption rate.
  3. The "swelling" areas are cleaned and re-processed without fail.

Care of the treated surface.

  1. The treated surface must be kept moist for three days to ensure diffusion of the active components of the composition into the thickness of the treated surface and maintain the dynamics of the primary formation of a waterproofing crystalline structure.
  2. The holding time of the material before applying subsequent layers is, in general, 28 days, but can be significantly less. in this case, it is indicated by the manufacturer in the instructions for use located on the product packaging.
  3. In the case of germination of a crystal structure on outside waterproofing coating Before applying subsequent layers, it must be mechanically removed, and the surface itself must be treated with a weak acid solution to stop the crystallization process.

At the same time, the plaster forms a high-strength coating 2-3 mm thick on the concrete surface, protecting the concrete and preventing the leaching of active substances even with significant water pressure. During the operation of the structure, when new contact with water molecules occurs, the reaction resumes, and the process of compaction of the material develops in depth. “Self-healing” of microcracks also occurs.

The use of such compositions is especially recommended for internal waterproofing of buried or semi-buried structures made of concrete, reinforced concrete and other stone materials with constant infiltration of groundwater: basements, garages, vegetable stores, tunnels, mines, sewerage structures, pools, tanks, dams, etc.

These compounds make it possible to waterproof buried rooms from the inside, without installing expensive external waterproofing. They are applied both during new construction and during renovation as an additive to concrete to create horizontal waterproofing layers in homogeneous dense walls. Provide complete impermeability to water and other liquids when high blood pressure, frost-resistant, durable, resistant to washout, aggressive environments, ultraviolet radiation, fire and explosion-proof. They form a single whole with the material being processed, are plastic, technologically advanced, environmentally friendly, and suitable for treating drinking water tanks. The treated surfaces are suitable for tiling, painting and plastering.

General application technology

Substrate surfaces must be cleaned to a structurally sound base, opening the capillary pores. The loose surface layer of old concrete with a damaged structure, dust, and cement films are removed. Oils are removed with a solvent or 10–30% hydrochloric acid solution. Seams brickwork, foundation blocks are embroidered to a depth of at least 5 mm, exposed reinforcement is cleaned to a metallic shine, structural joints, seams and cracks are embroidered and sealed with cement mortar with an additive waterproofing mixture. Leaks are sealed. Dust and traces of cleaning are carefully removed.

The treated surface is moistened clean water until saturated, but without a film of water and puddles. The composition is mixed with water in accordance with the recipe and thoroughly mixed until a homogeneous plastic solution is obtained. In the future, you can stir it further, but do not add water. Until the coating is ready (2–3 days), do not expose the applied layer to stress and moisten it, preventing it from drying out.

An analogue of penetrating waterproofing is the “silicatization” of concrete structures. Applied to the structure liquid glass interacts with calcium chloride, which is part of concrete, to form calcium silicate, which fills the pores of concrete and increases its resistance to aggressive environment. However, this process occurs only in a thin surface layer. Modern compositions ensure filling of pores to a depth of 150 mm. Initially, they began to be produced in Russia under a license from the Struktural Protection Enterprise (USA) - the Penetron brand; later several brands of domestic mixtures appeared.

Waterproofing dry mixture in the form of gray powder. Used to ensure water resistance, as an injection solution when installing horizontal waterproofing as an additive to concrete. Manufactured by Hydrocor LLC (Russia). Shelf life – 1 year.

Application

To seal cracks, seams and joints, 30x60 mm fines are made, washed with water and coated with liquid Penetron. The solution must be used within 30 minutes, and it should be mixed several times. Apply in two layers with total consumption 1.35-1.62 kg/sq. m (the second layer is applied after 1–2 hours). The coating is ready in 3 days. Before applying paint and other protective coatings, neutralize surfaces with a weak solution of vinegar or hydrochloric acid.

"Lakhta" (TU 5775-005-39504194-97)

Penetrating waterproofing material. Developed by Hydrokor LLC together with the AKH Research Institute named after. K. D. Pamfilova. Produced by Hydrocor LLC. As can be seen from the table of tests given below (conducted by the Research Center "Prochnost" PGUPS), the company's own development, which began with production under license from Penetron, has already surpassed this brand in a number of characteristics. This looks all the more impressive if you compare the prices of these materials - Lakhta is almost half the price of Penetron.

"Aquatron" (TU 57-15-080-07508005-99)

Composition for ensuring waterproofness of concrete and other capillary-porous structures that are not subject to significant tensile and compressive loads. The composition of "Aquatron" has the form of a coarse gray powder.

Application

Expand the cracks to a depth of 50x30 mm and repair them cement-sand mortar with the addition of 1–3% of the Aquatron composition. Prime the surface with Aquatron, diluted with water in a ratio of 1:1. After waiting (5-10 minutes), apply the base coat. The composition must be used within 45 minutes. Consumption on a flat surface – 1.5 kg/sq.m. m, on uneven - 2.2 kg/sq. m. The coating is ready in 3 days.

"Hydrotex-V"

Penetrating waterproofing coating. It has the appearance of a gray powder without mechanical impurities. Penetrates the pores of concrete and seals them to a depth of up to 100 mm with a continuous front. Capable of “healing” cracks with an opening of up to 0.5 mm. Consumption 2–5 kg/sq. m when applied to the surface. Chemically resistant to salts and bases, solvents, petroleum products, conditionally resistant to mineral acids. Produced by the St. Petersburg company Spetsgidrozashchita LLC. Supplied in 25 kg bags. Shelf life – 1 year.

Application

Stir the mixture with water for 3–5 minutes until a homogeneous plastic solution is obtained. Use the solution within 1 hour. The coating is ready in 3 days.

"Osmosil" (Produced by Index S.p.A., Italy)

Waterproofing solution. Used on concrete and cement mortars for waterproofing internal and external foundations, underground structures, swimming pools, wells, tanks, bathrooms and shower rooms. Supplied in 25 kg paper bags.

Application

Dilute the mixture with water and let it sit for a few minutes. Apply the solution with a brush, from top to bottom, until a continuous layer is obtained. Stir the solution constantly. Apply a second layer of mortar "wet on wet". Cover the insulation on the floors with a screed (50 mm). On surfaces subject to vibration and shrinkage, increase the elasticity of the solution with a latex additive.

Sta-Dri masonry paint (Made in USA)

Penetrating waterproofing paint. When applied to porous concrete surface fills pores and forms a hard and dense protective covering. Compared to other previously mentioned formulations, more is applied thin layer(about 0.3 kg/sq. m) and holds a water pressure of only 5.5 meters (and in most cases more is not needed). Suitable for processing all parts of buildings (from chimney to the foundation) on all brick and stone-like surfaces, as well as fences, road structural elements, etc. Serves as a waterproofing and thermal insulation barrier. Other properties are similar to those of the compositions listed above. Forms a latex-like smooth surface, bright and grain-free, suitable for further finishing. Compressive strength is about 12.5 MPa. Packaging – plastic buckets from 2.3 to 19 kg.

Application

Apply with a brush, roller or spray in two layers with a break of 12 hours. Working time with the mixture is 4 hours.
