The table - an integral attribute of every home - can be made of different materials, have a simple and intricate form and carry out different functions, but it is completely impossible to do without it. Not everyone understands why make a table with your own hands if such an ordinary item can be easily bought at any furniture store. Indeed, not everyone dares to make furniture with their own hands.

But the daredevil who deliberately gets down to business will certainly enjoy the process and great result of their works. Some come to this wanting to save money, especially if they need something simple. Others, obeying a creative impulse, want to have a unique piece of furniture in their home that will improve their mood and self-esteem. In addition, a table created with your own hands always has ideal proportions and matches the interior style of your particular home.

Product shape and design

A wooden table is an environmentally friendly, aesthetic and durable product that will fit well into both an apartment and a country house. Moreover, there are options for special garden tables. It can be light, portable, or solid and massive, have different models and forms:

  • Angular;
  • Oval;
  • "Book";
  • Folding;
  • Sliding;
  • Transformer.

Transformers are perhaps the most interesting category of tables. When folded, they are very compact and look like a small bedside table. If you put it against the wall, it will take no more than half a meter. A table of this shape is indispensable in conditions limited area, when it is not possible to keep a large dining table for a dozen people. Hinged tabletop covers are attached using a hinge system. Transformers are usually rectangular, but there are also round models.

Before you get started, decide what configuration and size you need. Below are general recommendations professionals:

  • A handmade table must match the room for which it is created, both in size and style;
  • While creating street version it is important to think in advance how many people will use it at one time;
  • Folding tablegreat option for hospitable hosts. This product will be used assembled for family dinners and will be a godsend when receiving guests;
  • For a comfortable feast, the space at the table allocated for each guest must be at least 70 cm;
  • The children's model should be designed in accordance with the age and height of the child.

Manufacturing will cost some effort and time, but the result will please you. After all, a product created with my own hands, will be inexpensive and fully consistent with your ideas and desires. If you wish, you can make an entire furniture set, but this will require special skills and dexterity.

Before you start making a table, you should carefully read the drawing so as not to waste materials.

Tables can be divided into the following design types:

  • Made from solid wood;
  • Prefabricated (from terraced, tongue-and-groove, unedged boards);
  • Glued;
  • Made in the form of a “shield” of lamellas.

Furniture made from solid wood is considered elite and has a fairly high cost. The remaining options are simpler and can be used as in pure form, and in combination. Glued board tabletops look very nice different breeds wood made with epoxy is a resin-based adhesive. Natural wood patterns and different textures create incredible effect. Products made using this technology very durable and resistant to deformation.

Material selection

The most popular material for making tables and other garden furniture is a tree. This is easily explained, because wood has a number of significant advantages over other materials, such as metal or concrete. The tree has the following advantages:

  • Ease of processing;
  • High aesthetics;
  • Resistance to different climatic conditions;
  • High depreciation;
  • Possibility of restoration;
  • Wide range of possibilities in the field of processing and painting;
  • Safety for human health;
  • Low cost of certain categories of wood;
  • The beauty of natural patterns.

Natural wood– a material with a beautiful natural texture, quite inexpensive, environmentally friendly and durable. It is moisture resistant if specially processed, malleable for carpentry tools, and therefore excellent for making home furniture and utensils.

The appearance of the finished product and its characteristics will depend on the type of material and its preparation, so you should start with the selection of wood. Each type of wood has its own hardness. The most popular tree species can be identified:

  • Spruce, pine and cedar are softwoods. An easy-to-process material, but prone to deformation, drying out and cracking;

  • Oak, beech, larch and birch are representatives of hardwood. Beautiful and noble types of wood. Moisture resistant and durable. To process oak and other hardwood products you will need electric tools;

  • Superhard materials - yew, hornbeam and acacia - have an extremely dense internal structure and are highly durable materials. Requires professional industrial processing.

To make a wooden table you will need edged board or timber. A table made from slabs will have a brutal look and will fit perfectly into a hunting-style country house. A wide slab can serve as material for an entire tabletop. Another material for creating a tabletop is a cut from a trunk. First, a trunk of the required diameter is selected, then an even cut is made and varnished. This technology produces big number waste.

The durability of the product depends not only on the wood processing, but also on the choice of wood species. Hard rocks are not always good choice. Under conditions of temperature changes and high humidity the tree swells and crumbles. The best option for a street or country tabletop is elastic wood. Characteristics such as hardness and elasticity provide resistance to deformation. Spruce, aspen, larch and linden boast such properties.

Before starting carpentry work, the wood must be sanded and treated with an antiseptic, and finally it will need varnishing. In addition, stain will give the product a finished look.

Preparing tools

If you are inspired by new ideas and decide to make wooden table with your own hands, You will need to prepare the following tools for work:

  • Reismus;
  • Saw;
  • Jigsaw;
  • Hacksaw;
  • Jointer;
  • Milling cutter;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Drill;
  • Grinding device;
  • Clamps;
  • Pencil,
  • Roulette,
  • Square.

In order for the work to proceed, consider the shape and size of the product, prepare drawings. The size of the product will depend on the area allocated for it, and the average height is 70 cm. Here is a list of materials needed for work:

  • Antiseptic;
  • Sandpaper to varying degrees graininess;
  • Boards;
  • Beam or slab;
  • Paint and stain;
  • Glue.

For a standard family of four, a square-shaped table with a side width of one meter is suitable. The size of 120 by 90 cm will accommodate both owners and guests.

Construction of a drawing

The drawing is a diagram that clearly describes the sequence of actions, following which the expected result is guaranteed. If a unique design is conceived, then you will have to work on the diagram and drawings yourself. For this you can use computer program, then print the resulting documents to have a visual guide.

Manufacturing of parts

The step-by-step process of making a wooden tabletop can be described as follows:

  • Select the required amount of materials. For a standard width you will need 6-7 boards 3 cm thick. Only perfectly flat, jointed boards are suitable. Knots are not a hindrance.
  • Treat the wood with antiseptic treatment and dry thoroughly.
  • Lay out the boards in the shape of an even rectangle. Align the joints.
  • Place a block on both sides and cut straight.

  • Screw the timber to the boards. WITH reverse side countertops, in the center of the boards on each side, drill a hole for the bolt through the block 2/3. Make the recess on the beam wider so that the head of the bolt sinks.
  • Round the corners.
  • Attach the board diagonally from the bottom with self-tapping screws coated with glue.
  • Sand the surface first with coarse sandpaper, then with softer sandpaper.
  • Cover the product with stain and varnish. If desired, the table can be painted.

Homemade table top made of laminated wood

Tables made of this material have a smooth and uniform structure, without joints or crevices. Another argument in favor of this technology will be its resistance to deformation and cracking. To make a table, you will need 4 boards with smoothly planed edges, having the following parameters - 1x1.5x0.5 m. The operating algorithm is as follows:

  • At the ends, at a distance of 10-12 cm, make holes measuring 8-12 mm. They are needed for attaching dowels and dowels. Holes in the two side boards are made on one side only.
  • Fold the boards correctly before applying glue.
  • Sand the boards and coat them with glue.
  • Insert dowels and fasten the boards.
  • Align the ends and make sure each board is in the correct position.
  • Place the finished tabletop on a flat surface and press tightly with a clamp.
  • Leave to dry.

Making a round table

To bring to life the idea of creating a round table with your own hands, you need to have the following materials:

  • Square timber (width – 100 mm, length 750 mm – 4 pcs;
  • Boards 100 by 20 mm, length 750 mm – 2 pcs;
  • Boards 250 by 40 mm, length 2000 mm – 4 pcs;
  • Boards 100 by 20 mm, length 800 mm – 2 pcs;
  • Boards 100 by 20 mm, length 1600 mm – 2 pcs.

Step by step instructions to creating a handmade round table:

  • Stack four long boards tightly together.
  • Draw a circle.
  • Cut along the line with a jigsaw.
  • Make a rectangular frame and fasten the circle with screws.

  • Attach the legs to the frame.
  • Check stability and then disassemble.
  • Sand the wood with sandpaper. First hard, then soft.
  • Cover with stain and varnish.

At first glance, it seems that the most important detail of the table is the tabletop. However, do not underestimate the legs of the product. After all, they are the ones who decorate the table and give it a certain style. The legs must correspond to the basic style of the model and the necessary parameters.

The paradox is that the more complex and elaborate the table legs are, the less they will last. The most reliable will be simple wooden, stable and lightweight supports. You don't have to make drawings for them. Stages of making table legs:

  • Selection of four equal length (85 cm) bars;
  • Installation of bars at the corners of the tabletop;
  • Connection on each side with boards or beams: two equal in length, and two equal in width;
  • This design glued to the table and left to dry.

The table does not always have standard four legs; sometimes craftsmen resort to creating a table base from a frame and one or two legs. Glue can be replaced with furniture corners, which are fastened with self-tapping screws, or for reliability, use both options. You can create an unusual fantasy model by evenly attaching the tabletop to ornate and fancy wood roots. This will be a stunning piece that only you will have.

Assembly Features

Holes are drilled in each element of the product, then the parts are connected with bolts, which makes the product truly durable. You can enhance the effect using fixed with good glue. Self-tapping screws are screwed in from the inside under acute angle in relation to the board. If the finished product is noticeably wobbly, use special belts with clamps. This will help make the structure more reliable and stable.

For the legs are taken wooden blocks, which must be processed with a planer in the shape of a cone. Carved balusters, which you can either buy or carve yourself, are also great for this. lathe. By doing the construction with your own hands, a person gains skills in working with wood, so if the need arises to repair the product, it will not cause difficulties. You will already have all the necessary arsenal of tools. In addition, you will need wood and means for restoring old wooden products.

Treatment

Getting a good and solid result is not so difficult. The main thing is to comply with everything the necessary conditions. After the main work is completed, the time comes for the final work, but no less. important stage– processing of the product with varnish. In order to carry out this operation correctly, follow the following rules:

  • Sand the edges of the tabletop by hand;
  • Apply a high-quality varnish to the entire product. In addition, painting some parts of the table with paint will look very decorative;
  • Flaws in the work are well masked with putty that matches the color.

The most popular option for decorative finishing of a wooden table is to cover its surface with a transparent or colored varnish, which will highlight the natural wood pattern and provide its protection from the influence of external factors.

In order for a handmade product to serve long years, remaining the pride of the owner, It is recommended to follow simple rules:

  • Avoid direct contact of the product with open sun and do not leave it outside in the rain;
  • Keep the surface clean;
  • Treat with polish;
  • In winter, keep the table indoors so that the varnish coating is not damaged.

Before assembly, each wooden part must be treated with fire retardants, which will serve as protection against rotting, increase moisture resistance and fire resistance.

Exterior decoration and design

The most enjoyable stage of making furniture with your own hands is, of course, decorative finishing, which each master performs in his own way. In order to get an original model, you need to think about the external design of the product. Sections of medium-sized trunks, decoratively laid out on the tabletop, will come to your aid. Wood carvings are also a wonderful decoration. Carved legs and table top will give the product elegance and lightness.

Many people prefer to decorate the tabletop with glass. This option is suitable if the table is located indoors. A hand-painted table is unlikely to go unnoticed by guests. This product will add a special touch to any room.

For those who are not good at drawing, suitable option transferring a design through a stencil. This is, indeed, extremely simple, but there are some nuances: it is recommended to apply a pattern acrylic paints, since when they harden, they form a thin film and therefore do not spread.

Before you apply new layer paint, let the previous one dry. You can work with either a brush or a roller.

The frame around the edges of the tabletop always looks decent. Helps you create a perfectly straight line masking tape. Cover the finished drawing with varnish. The simplest and most proven option is to play with the color of the boards. Using paint, stain and sandpaper you can create the effect of aged wood. It is advisable to use one set of tiles so that there are no inconsistencies in height and do not create unnecessary relief, which can damage the pattern and make the table uncomfortable to use. In addition to the mosaic, you need to purchase glue and grout. Briefly, the process of creating a countertop with mosaic masonry can be described as follows:

  • The surface of the countertop is degreased with alcohol;
  • Then it is processed with sandpaper;
  • Start laying out from the outer edges;
  • Secure the elements;

  • Leave to dry for a day;
  • Dilute the grout to the desired consistency;
  • Carefully coat the seams;
  • After an hour, remove the remaining grout;
  • Let the product rest for two days, then wipe with a cloth containing vegetable oil for shine.

Budget option mosaic decor will be table decoration eggshell . It is necessary to crush the shell into medium-sized crumbs, then place it with tweezers on the surface of the countertop, previously greased with PVA glue. Try to leave the gaps between the shells minimal. If desired, the shell can be painted.

Tabletops with decorated with gold leaf. Potal is thin sheet made of metal alloys simulating gold. This material can be purchased at art stores. The required pattern is applied with special glue to the surface of the table; after 15 minutes, cover it with a sheet of gold leaf, carefully smoothing it out. Then you need to walk over the surface with a soft brush and admire the result.

Modern kitchen sets often do not include such an essential item as a dining table, and even if it is included in basic equipment, then it is usually carried out according to standard project made from cheap pressed wood. Of course, such products are not famous for their original design and durability. Such tables are usually inexpensive, but it’s still better to abandon an unsuccessful purchase in favor of a homemade wooden dining table, which any beginner in home carpentry can create.

Physical labor associated with woodworking (sawing, planing) usually brings great pleasure to novice craftsmen, and a successful result will not be long in coming.

It is important that activities related to independent design and assembly wooden models– the process is very creative. It’s rare that someone tries to completely replicate a model they like from a store. Usually the design of the model is taken as a basis, and the remaining parameters are finalized by the master according to his own inspiration. On the veranda or in country house, it is better to choose transforming structures for utility rooms:

  • Folding,
  • Hiking;
  • Hanging;
  • Garden;
  • Level.

Tables for stationary use are made in constant sizes:

  • Coffee;
  • Massage;
  • Writing
  • For laptop;
  • For the bath.

The assembly of such products is very durable, the parts are held together tightly, and there are no hinge joints.

Tables for a garden or terrace usually have a standard rectangular or round shape. However, there are craftsmen who manage to make a table in rustic style in the form of a stump, and the bench in the form of a log, which looks very impressive. This ensemble is easily complemented by stools made from sections of logs in the same style. As you can see, making a wooden table yourself is not a difficult job.

If you are planning to design a wooden table for your dacha with your own hands, then you can suggest the following course of action:

  1. Cut the boards 140 cm long and make a frame out of them, fastening the individual elements with self-tapping screws. Make sure that the boards are positioned at right angles to each other. In order to check the correctness, measure the diagonals: if there was no error, then they should be completely identical. The finished frame is needed to ensure the strength and reliability of the entire structure.
  2. If you are planning to create a round table, then make legs. To do this, cut 4 boards 80 cm long and process them grinder to give an aesthetic appearance. Chamfer the ribs using a suitable tool. Attach the workpieces to the frame with inside. For each leg, select 4 fasteners to ensure the most secure connection.
  3. Attach the crossbars to the middle of the legs. They will act as a frame for a shelf, which can be used for its intended purpose for arranging any things or dishes. On the other hand, this detail will make the furniture more rigid. Fix the crossbars at an angle of 90º. To avoid making mistakes, check the accuracy with a square.
  4. Place the base on a flat surface and check how stable it is. If the structure does not wobble and you have no doubt about its reliability, bring the surfaces into proper condition by grinding. For this type of work, it is recommended to use sandpaper or a special machine. Using the device will help simplify the task and complete the task faster.
  5. Assemble the tabletop. To create it, it is recommended to use boards of various types of wood. If you are planning to build a round table, then you will need to cut the tabletop to the appropriate dimensions from a solid piece of wood. This will allow you to create a table with your own hands that will look stylish and unconventional. Treat the material with stain in advance. Secure the boards with nails, and secure the shelf with self-tapping screws. Level the surface with a special machine and apply paint to it (alternatively, you can use clear varnish). You can significantly simplify your work if you purchase or order ready-made wooden stands. You won't have to waste any time or effort on processing it.
  6. Place the prepared tabletop on the frame and fasten the individual elements. A metal corner is best suited for these purposes. At this point the assembly process can be considered complete.

How to make a table from logs?

1 2 3

If you wish, you can make a table for your garden with your own hands using another type of material - logs. It is also environmentally friendly and easy to process. With its use outdoor table for the dacha will be created according to the following scheme:

  1. Prepare the log house for further work: plan the surface of the logs using a plane, cut into separate parts, and sand with sandpaper to remove all burrs. Make the joints perfectly even, make holes, making sure that their diameter matches the diameter of the reinforcement. It is important that the individual holes are spaced 30 cm apart from each other.
  2. Assemble the elements that form the log table. When connecting parts “into a bowl,” cutting should begin by filing in the center. Make sure that the cutting is exactly at the specified depth. To perform this work, it is more convenient to use a chisel or an ax.
  3. There is another option for fastening parts: in the places where one part is connected to another, holes are made, and reinforcement is inserted into it. To make your own garden table more durable and reliable, use epoxy glue. All parts are folded according to the drawing. If the reinforcement is too long, it is shortened. The result is to create a split table from logs with your own hands, which is very convenient to use.

Experts make high-quality objects from wood with their own hands, connecting individual parts with self-tapping screws. This option is also acceptable; if you are going to make a wooden table for your garden, take note of it. Benches can also be constructed from logs when you have lumber left over.

To top it off, I would like to note: in order for garden tables not to lose their attractiveness over the years, they need to be properly cared for, in particular, protected from precipitation and hidden under a canopy.

By the way, setting up the canopy itself is quite simple; just use the most primitive means at hand, for example, shower curtains. They need to be fastened together so that they form a dense canopy, under which precipitation does not penetrate. If it is not possible to arrange a shed, it is better to move the furniture into the house.

In modern conditions small apartments It’s quite difficult to give free rein to your imagination and purchase pieces of furniture that would suit everything. Among other things, it is quite difficult to find interior elements that would be attractive not only in design, but also in price. These two problems can be solved using the method self-made wooden furniture. This could be, for example, a table. You can complete it by preparing all the necessary materials and tools. This piece of furniture can be used both in the kitchen and in the living room.

Preparatory work

In order to make a wooden table with your own hands, you will need to prepare some materials. Will need furniture board, the thickness of which is 19 millimeters. This material is highly durable and looks very attractive. Shields on preparatory stage It will be necessary to mark, and then cut out blanks from them. It is important to stock up on the necessary fasteners for assembly. Thus, you will need to prepare 6 boards that will make up the lower support. Their size is 19 x 100 x 965 millimeters. There will be 4 legs, their dimensions are 19 x 215 x 680 mm. The same amount of leg molding will also come in handy, but the dimensions of these elements should be 1938 x 470 mm. The tabletop supports will be blanks with dimensions of 19 x 125 x 610 mm. You can make a wooden table for a gazebo with your own hands to the same dimensions. The master must prepare two dowels for the legs with dimensions of 10 x 32 mm. Two lintels with dimensions of 19 x 140 x 1100 mm should also be highlighted.

Additional items

You will need a steel tie in the amount of two pieces, its size should be 150 mm. The tabletop will be limited to the following dimensions - 19 x 1020 x 1900 mm. The tabletop plank must be cut in two pieces and have dimensions of 19 x 19 x 1750 mm. Screws, washers, ties, and dowels will be used as fasteners.

Preparing tools

It will be impossible to make a wooden table with your own hands if you do not stock up on an electric jigsaw, a circular saw, a hacksaw, a drill with drills, a plane, a milling machine, a file, clamps, and a brush. To attach the parts you will need carpenter's glue; the wood can be treated with sandpaper. The table will look good if you treat it with polyurethane varnish, which can be glossy or matte.

Manufacturing technology

If you decide to make a wooden table with your own hands, then you need to know that each supporting structure consists of 3 blanks glued together. An opening should be formed in the central part. Immediately you need to cut out 6 elements for two supports. Next, the master must make straight cuts using a circular saw. Corners should be rounded. In two blanks it is necessary to cut out the central part so that the groove fits on the central part of the support. The width of the groove should be slightly smaller compared to the thickness of the tenon in the leg. This will prevent the structure from loosening during swelling and drying.

At the next stage, you can glue the supports. After applying glue to the surface of the parts, they must be folded so that the upper edges are flush. Reliability of fastening will be ensured by clamps. After the supports have dried, you need to get rid of excess glue. After the clamps are removed, you need to plan the lower and upper edges.

Working on the legs

When making a wooden table with your own hands, you need to prepare four legs. Afterwards, the vertical edges must be planed and rounded using a milling machine. At the ends of long workpieces, it is necessary to mark and then cut out tenons, placing them at the bottom and top. This can be done using a circular saw, which must be equipped with a combination blade. After the moldings are cut and brought to the required dimensions, you can round all 4 ribs. It is necessary to make grooves for glue on the back surface of the moldings.

Work on supports

If you decide to make a wooden table with your own hands, photos of the design will help you decide what features this piece of furniture will have.

The next step will be cutting out blanks for the supports. For gluing, select a 10 mm groove in each workpiece. It is preferable to perform these manipulations immediately. In order to simplify the task, you need to prepare a cardboard template, marking the location of the grooves on it. Next, you can perform pairwise gluing so that the cut is located in the central part. Everything needs to be tightened with clamps. Once the glue has dried, you need to clean the cuts using emery cloth.

Installation of legs

If you are making a wooden table with your own hands, you must first review the photos. It is important to initially adjust all connections without using glue. At the wide edges, the connections should be tight. A gap of 1.5 millimeters must be provided on the side to compensate for changes in the size of the wood. When edging, these elements will be decorated.

The walls and spikes must be treated with glue, after which you can begin pairing the legs with the vertical supports. Without waiting for the glue to dry, you need to make holes and reinforce the connection using dowels. If you decide that you will make a wooden table with your own hands, it is recommended to prepare the drawings at initial stage. For the legs, cut the moldings to the required length. They need to be glued and tightened using clamps. The glue is applied and then left until it dries.

If you decide to make a wooden table with your own hands, you can borrow the drawings from the article. The jumper should be installed high, so that those sitting at the table do not touch it with their feet. It is necessary to make gluing using two strips, which are previously edged with molding.

After the glue has dried, you need to remove the clamps and then chamfer. Holes must be made on the short sides to install fasteners. The tabletop can be made independently; its dimensions may differ from those presented above. At the ends you need to select tenons using a jigsaw.

Next, the cut areas are cleaned with a file. Along the long edges of the workpiece, it is necessary to install strips, which are pulled together with clamps and dried. Using an edge cutter, you need to align the edges of the moldings. They should be fixed to the planks, and then dried and the joints cleaned using a grinding machine.

When you make a wooden table for your garden with your own hands, the drawings will allow you to understand how the tabletop and legs are connected. To do this, use U-shaped brackets. On the long sides of the base, quarters should be selected to secure the sides. The ends of the last elements need to be rounded and cleaned. Afterwards everything is glued and compressed with clamps, and then left until dry.

Final works

Before you make a wooden table with your own hands, you need to familiarize yourself with the technology of the work. At the next stage, with a deviation of 100 millimeters from the edges of the base, it is necessary to make holes, the diameter of which should be equal to 20 millimeters. A through groove should be placed between them. The holes are required to prevent the base from splitting. If you are making a wooden table for your garden with your own hands, the drawings should help you carry out the work.

Now the master can assemble the table; to do this, it is necessary to fix the jumper to the legs. Using a pencil, you need to mark the position of the legs so that they are perpendicular to the ends of the lid. The brackets should be installed according to the markings. You need to make 10 holes in the tabletop to install screws. Next, you can strengthen the brackets. It is necessary to place a washer under each screw; this will compensate for shrinkage; this is the only way to make a folding wooden table with your own hands.

You can change the technology and dimensions of the table at your own discretion. However, it must be remembered that the design should be as strong and reliable as possible. It's important to protect wooden elements from negative impact external environment, especially for those pieces of furniture that are supposed to be used in the kitchen or outdoors.

A table is a necessary attribute of comfort, without which to modern man impossible to get by. As soon as the conversation turns to eating away from home, a person begins to figure out what he can use to build a table. In nature they find a convenient stump, in a construction site they lay boards between stools. Well, what about the dacha? For a comfortable snack summer cottage outdoors, you can build a wooden garden table with your own hands. This does not require extensive knowledge or special skills.

The main criterion for a country table is durability and convenience.

There are several options for making a garden table made of wood. Let's look at both the simplest and more complex ones, but first let's find out what tools may be needed for this work.

List of required tools

  1. Wood - the choice of material should be approached very carefully, we will dwell on this point in more detail, the main thing when preparing it is to take into account that its rigidity and weight will depend on the thickness of the working surface of the garden table;
  2. Planer - you may not need it, but if the tabletop is stacked (consisting of several boards), then with its help it will be possible to fit them closer to each other;
  3. A hacksaw for wood – working with a jigsaw is much faster and more comfortable, but not everyone has one, and there is not always electricity in the country, so we will strive for minimalism;
  4. A chisel – not a single carpenter can do without it, and making a table is no exception. A chisel is needed to cut out patai;
  5. Nails and hammer;
  6. Roulette and level;
  7. Screwdriver – it is better to fasten some elements of a garden table with screws or pins;
  8. Sandpaper – will be needed for final sanding of the garden table;
  9. Varnish – After the garden table has been assembled and sanded, it will need to be protected from exposure environment, unless you want to hide it under a canopy before it rains.

How to decide on the size of an outdoor table

In this matter, you should proceed from the number of family members and guests who regularly take part in feasts and add a couple more places to them just in case.

When deciding on the size of the table, take into account how many people need to be seated at it.

For a company of 4-6 people, the size of an outdoor table for a summer house will be 1200x800 mm. If a company gathers up to 10 people, then it will fit at a garden table of 1600 mm in length, and the width can be left the same.

It should be taken into account that a wooden outdoor table that is too large will be difficult to bring indoors for the winter. To avoid inconvenience, its design can be collapsible.

Second important parameter is the height of the garden table. But here everything is standard, the tabletop from the floor should be at the level of 70-90 cm, for people of average height.

Preparation of the drawing

If you have never made a table for your garden with your own hands before, then required drawing It's better to download from the Internet. Abundance of simple and complex structures made of wood will give you room to maneuver.

A couple of tips for those who want to make a drawing themselves or make changes to a finished diagram:

  • Take dimensions not from the ceiling, but based on a table of suitable dimensions in a store or at home;
  • If the dimensions have already been specified, then the easiest way to change them is by multiplying or dividing all horizontal and vertical parameters by a constant coefficient.

Example: if you need to slightly increase the table in height and length, then you can take the indicator “1.2” as the coefficient. Multiply the height and length by it, but do not touch the width. You can do the same with any parameter.

Assembling an outdoor table for a summer house according to size

The easiest way to show the process of assembling the most common design of a country table is with an example with specific dimensions in which you can make changes based on your preferences. First, let's designate all the parts and their sizes.

Table top for a country table

Let's take its size based on big family consisting of eight people. Length 1800 mm, standard width 700 mm. The thickness should be chosen based on the type of wood, but even from the strongest wood the thickness should not be less than 20 mm.

Country table diagram.

Legs

The table legs will be positioned at a slight angle for better stability, their length will be 750 mm. The beam itself for the legs should be 100x50 mm in width and thickness.

Bottom bars

If the lower crossbars are expected to serve as a support, stationary benches, then their length should be 1500 mm, width and thickness are similar to the legs. If the benches for the dacha will stand separately from the table, then you can limit the length of the crossbar to 1000 mm. There should be 2 such elements in total.

Top bars

There should also be two of them; the cross-section of the beam for them can be taken, as for the bottom one, but you can also reduce it, because there will not be a large load on these elements, they should be the length of the width of the tabletop, that is, 700 mm.

Stiffening rib

This element is attached in the middle of the tabletop to its lower part; the spacers will rest against it; in terms of dimensions, it should be completely identical to the upper crossbars.

Spacers

Their production occurs last, and the sizes are selected based on the actual measurement of the structure. Initially, only their cross-section is known - 50x100 mm.

Fixed Benches for Wooden Garden Table

If you decide to combine a table and benches for it in one design, then the length of the lower crossbars should be 1500 mm as mentioned above. Two boards on each side, length equal to length garden table, and the width is 125 mm each.

Option for a country table combined with benches.

If the existing boards are narrower, they can be moved apart slightly, leaving a gap. The thickness of each board must be at least 30 mm, so that they do not break under a person.

To avoid sagging of benches for a summer house during long-term use, the boards in the middle must be reinforced with a stiffening rib.

Table assembly process

Support nodes of a wooden garden table

  1. Make cuts on the leg blanks at the top and bottom at an angle of 22 degrees.
  2. Place the legs at an angle so that one side of them overlaps the top crossbar, and the distance at the centers of the other ends is 1400 mm.
  3. The lower crossbar should be positioned at a distance of 300 mm from their lower part.
  4. Both supports must be completely identical. It is necessary to drill two holes at each junction of the legs and crossbars.
  5. After this, you can completely fasten them with bolts or studs.

Assembling a tabletop for a country table

  1. Having previously processed the ends of the boards with a plane, number them with a pencil on the reverse side. Lay out all the boards on a flat surface according to the numbering. Find the center of the future tabletop and use self-tapping screws to attach the stiffener to it.
  2. The length of the screws must be sufficient for reliable fixation to the table surface. But screws that are too long can pierce through it, so measure the thickness in advance and select the optimal screws.
  3. Turn the tabletop over and, with the help of a partner, place it on installed supports. Temporarily secure it to the supports using nails or screws.
  4. Then, when the structure is rigidly connected, you can drill holes for the bolts after the fact. Each board should have one hole connecting it and top bars at both sides. In the countertop, make holes under the bolt heads using a larger diameter drill. Insert metal washers into them to prevent the board from being pushed through by the bolt while fixing it with a wrench.

Installing spacers for an outdoor table for a summer house

After the table is assembled, you should take measurements with a tape measure between the edge of the tabletop stiffener on each side, to the bottom crossbar, and saw off a piece of 100x50 mm timber with a small margin.

An example of using spacers as a footrest.

The reserve is needed to cut down the corners of the spacers. Saw off one side of the spacer at the desired angle and, applying it, measure the second angle. Perform a similar operation with the second spacer.

They are fastened with nails or self-tapping screws, but you can try and make a bolted connection, in which case you will get a completely collapsible outdoor table for your dacha. All that remains is to sand it with sandpaper and open it with varnish.

Other options for country tables

Garden table on a stump

You can do it even simpler and assemble a country table with your own hands from scrap materials. Many people have garden plot There are stumps from cut trees that have not been uprooted. The tabletop can be adapted just to such a stump. And put small logs around, using them instead of garden benches.

Country table made from pallets

After the piece construction work Pallets from brought materials (bricks or tiles) are often left on the garden plot; they can be used as material for a country table. You can build it with your own hands in 20 minutes. To do this, in addition to the pallets, you will need 4 more bars.

Option for a country table made from pallets.

Fix them on the first pallet, and place the second one on top, and secure it too. The table is ready; to give it a more presentable look, you can sand the burrs and varnish or soak them in oil. Instead of legs, screw on wheels from old chairs and a comfortable mobile garden table is ready.

One of the advantages of a dacha is the opportunity to spend time outside. And you can’t do without a table here, because how else can you dine on fresh air? And it’s more pleasant to eat kebabs right by the fire, without going into the house. Therefore, there must be a table in the yard! And since we are in crisis times, and you can’t buy everything, it’s better to make a table with benches for your dacha yourself. It’s cheaper this way, and the thing will turn out to be unique, and it will be about a hundred times more pleasant to use.

Table with benches: design options

Basically, there are two ways to make a table with benches. The first method is to make a monolithic product in which the table and benches are a single whole.

The second option involves making benches as separate items. Then you can use them yourself. But no one forbids combining these approaches.

We make a table with benches with our own hands

Wooden table with benches

We will focus on the first method and show you the easiest way to make a table with benches made of wood.

First of all, the table top is assembled. As you can see, its design is extremely simple. The boards are simply attached with self-tapping screws to three crossbars.

Then the legs are attached to the crossbars on the lid. Please note that the legs must be made of thick boards (40mm or more) or timber. They must be durable, because with this design of the product it is they who bear the weight of not only the table and what is standing on it, but also the weight of all the people who are sitting at this table.

Next, we attach the crossbars to the legs, on which the boards of the benches will be laid. They perform a double function: on the one hand they carry benches, and on the other they give rigidity to the entire structure. They must also be durable. And it’s better to secure them not with self-tapping screws, but with 10-12mm bolts (two or three bolts on each leg), because it is these fasteners that will take the weight of those sitting.

All that remains is to attach the boards of the benches to these crossbars, and the table with benches is ready.

We paint with transparent paint so that we can see the beauty of the texture of natural wood.

We must admit that this design has some disadvantages. Firstly, if people sitting on one side suddenly stand up together, then those sitting on the other can outweigh and knock over everything that is served on the table. In addition, the bars that hold the benches make it difficult to board and disembark. This is the price of simplicity.

But the table in the photo below does not have these shortcomings, because... firstly, the table supports are located on the same vertical with the center of gravity of the people sitting on the bench (which, moreover, has its own legs and therefore does not load the table supports at all), and secondly, the benches are attached to the table in the middle, and not on the sides , which makes it easy to sit down and get up from the table.

This photo shows how the frame of a similar table is constructed, albeit without supports under each seat, but here they are not needed, because The table supports are again almost on the same vertical with the center of gravity of those sitting.

If you have people with special needs who use wheelchairs, you can take this into account when designing your desk. They will appreciate it!

Bench with table on a metal frame

If you know a little about welding, then you will probably find it easier and faster to weld a table frame from metal than to tinker with wood.

Metal frames are thinner and at the same time more reliable, so the entire structure takes on a less bulky, almost elegant look. At the same time, we can get rid of the shortcomings that are inherent in our very first design.

In addition, the strength of metal allows you to move away from the usual forms and give free rein to your imagination.

And of course, you can go the route of benches that are not attached to the table.

Table with benches on a metal frame without welding

If you like the idea of a table on a metal frame, but you don’t have welding or don’t know how to use it, don’t be upset!

These tables are assembled without a single weld! All metal elements simply bent to shape and secured with screws.

We showed you several ways to make a bench with a table for your garden. Which one should you prefer? Wood has its own special charm; metal is easy to work with and allows you to create more practical and less bulky shapes. The choice is yours!
In any case, your table with benches will turn out to be unique in its own way, because things made with your own hands always bear the personal imprint of the master who put his soul into them.

We hope that in your spare time you will think about how to make your own design of a table with benches for your favorite dacha.
