Standard height for installing a TV on the wall. At what height should the TV be hung? At what height should you hang the TV?

You can’t just hang the TV on the wall the way your intuition, brother, matchmaker or friendly neighbor Spiderman advises you. The issue must be approached seriously and with all responsibility, of course, unless a stiff and, in the long term, injured neck is not part of the plan.

The height at which the TV is hung is calculated separately for each case. This is done quite simply and anyone who has a measuring tape in the house can do it.

What you will need:

  • TV size (diagonal). You can read how to find out the diagonal of a TV;
  • The distance at which you want to watch TV. It is advisable not to take the viewing distance from the ceiling, but to select it depending on the screen resolution and diagonal of the TV. About this. But, if you don’t want to bother with exact data, you can use the universal method - multiply the TV diagonal by 1.82;
  • Sit in the place where you will watch TV and measure the distance from the floor to your eye level. Well, or ask someone to help you if you can’t do it yourself.

If you have several people in your family, you can measure the data of all adult family members and calculate the average value for the “Height from floor to eye level” parameter. We don’t take children into account, because they grow quickly - that’s one thing, you don’t grow down - that’s two.

Now, to calculate the optimal height at which you need to hang the TV, we use the formula:

VUT=VDUG+(RDT*0.22), where:

  • VUT— TV installation height;
  • VDUG— height to eye level;
  • RTD- distance to TV. You can calculate, or you can enter your own value;
  • 0,22 - a coefficient based on the average value of a person’s tilt when viewing while sitting - 10-15 degrees. That is, if you are an average user who watches TV while sitting, for example, on the couch, then this formula is for you. If the angle of your inclination relative to the vertical position is more than 15 degrees (for example, 45 degrees - reclining), then this formula is not suitable for calculating the required height.

You will now say, “So let’s calculate the coefficient for other degrees!” The fact is that I have no idea how the developers of the formula obtained a coefficient of 0.22 from the figure 12.5 (average of 10-15). By what method they conjured this meaning remains a mystery to me, no matter how much I searched, I never found it, unfortunately.

Example

Let's say you have a 60″ TV. Before we calculate at what height we need to hang the TV, we also need to know optimal distance for viewing (RDT), and as we know, for this you need to multiply the TV diagonal by 1.82 (this is in simple version, if you don’t want to go deeper and read the article linked above).

RTD=60*1.82=109.2″. The result is in inches, but we need to convert the data to the metric system, which means we multiply 109.2 by 2.54 (the number of centimeters in an inch) and get 277.37 cm

Having measured the height to eye level (VDUG), we received, suppose, 100 cm. Now we have all the necessary data and we can calculate the height for installing the TV (VUT).

VUT=100+(277.37*0.22)=161.02 cm, or 1 meter and 61 centimeters - this is exactly the height at which our 60-inch TV needs to be hung.

For the lazy

For those who are too lazy to add and multiply, I made the formulas in an Excel file, you can download it from this link. There are two files in the archive, in the first you need to enter the diagonal of the TV and the height to eye level, in the second the distance to the TV and the height to eye level.

That is, the first option is for those who did not bother with the exact distance to the TV and chose the option where the diagonal is multiplied by 1.82. And the second one is for those who already know the distance to the TV.

That's probably all. Along the way I came up with this MEM ASIC.

You can't just hang up the TV. MEM

Basically, the distance between the TV and the floor is determined empirically, based on the preferences of each family member. However, medical experts advise placing equipment no lower and no higher than 1.35 meters (this distance is measured from the middle of the screen to the floor). According to them, this placement is the safest for vision, and the eyes will not get tired while watching.

To determine how to hang a TV on the wall in the bedroom, you need to lie on the bed in your usual position, completely relax, close your eyes, and then open them and look at the place where the TV panel is supposed to be installed. The area where the eye immediately falls will be the middle of the screen, that is, the place to which the bracket will be attached.

Most important factors when determining the height of TV placement are:

    Height upholstered furniture: beds, sofas

    Location of the place from which you plan to watch TV

    Device parameters

It is advisable that during viewing the angle of deviation from the center of the screen should not be more than 30 degrees - this is the most optimal value.

Advice! To ensure that watching movies in the bedroom is always as comfortable as possible, you should purchase an adjustable bracket that will allow you to install the monitor in the position that is most comfortable.

When fixing the TV in the bedroom, the bracket is installed at a height of 1.5 m from the floor, and at a distance of 0.25 meters from it - a block of sockets.

While in the process of cooking, the housewife can only occasionally glance at the screen and listen to what is happening on it. That is why the standard placement rule “the middle of the screen is at eye level” is not so relevant for this room.

If we are talking about an LCD analog with a TFT matrix, then horizontal plane it has a fairly wide viewing angle with a slight change in contrast, but with the vertical plane things are not so smooth, because even with the slightest deviation the screen will darken. Based on this, you should hang the TV at the distance from the floor at which it will most often be watched.

If viewing will be done while standing, the ideal height is 1.75 meters, and if sitting on chairs/chairs, then much lower, so as not to look up at the screen and not see a darkened image.

Info! Usually, kitchens cannot boast large sizes, so placing the TV high is the only option. In this case, you should purchase a movable bracket that will allow you to change the angle of inclination.

The living room is a place where everyone gathers for the purpose of relaxation, have a delicious lunch and watching TV. Therefore, in this room it is very important to place the TV as comfortable as possible for everyone around. In order to do this, you must adhere to one fundamental rule - the screen must be located opposite the eyes of each viewer, and you must take into account the height of the sofas and armchairs, and the higher their seats are, the higher the monitor will be located.

Bedroom design with a TV on the wall is becoming increasingly popular in modern interior. This became possible with the advent of plasma and liquid crystal television panels.
IN in this case flat TV receiver acts as a wall decoration, and its installation allows you to make the presence modern technology in retro or classic interior where it looks like a painting. You can learn how to properly install a TV in your bedroom with your own hands from this article.

According to the recommendations of doctors and psychologists, it is allowed to watch TV only for a strictly limited period of time and a special place should be designated for this, for example, in the living room, in the home cinema room, but not in the kitchen-dining room, and what is even more harmful in the bedroom.
There is, of course, an explanation for this:

  • sitting behind dining table or while in bed, you “stick” to the TV receiver for a long time, which is harmful for preserving your vision and brain.
  • Watching TV, like reading, is not recommended in a lying position.

The bedroom is where you need to rest and relax. And the sound and flickering of the TV screen make the rest absolutely incomplete.

  • The presence of a TV in the bedroom can cause persistent insomnia.

Advice: Before planning a TV in the bedroom, you need to think: is it really necessary here? If you have problems with sleep and quick relaxation, it is better to refuse TV in the bedroom.

  • It is not advisable to place a TV. In a compact sleeping room you need to use technology as little as possible; an increase in the number of electrical appliances worsens the indoor microclimate, which is especially noticeable in small rooms.
    It can already be difficult to arrange everything you need here. But by and large, a TV is not a necessity, which will also “eat up” valuable centimeters.

Basic rules for installing a TV

Tip: Wall mounting of a TV that weighs more than 25 kg must be done by two people to avoid unexpected falls of the equipment.

The operating instructions for televisions produced by manufacturers indicate that only a qualified specialist should hang the television; wall mounting TV it can become dangerous.

Advice: Anyone who has the skills to work with a drill and can do everything carefully themselves should not be afraid of installation if the TV is not too bulky.

  • Before hanging a flat-screen TV on the wall, you need to make sure that the structure can support its weight.
  • The cables are connected after hanging the TV on the wall.
  • The device must not be installed in a confined space; air must circulate freely, passing through all its ventilation openings.
  • When hanging the TV on a movable bracket, you need to make sure that the wire for its power supply will not be pulled when turning the device, which can cause a spark and fire.

How to choose a TV

Once a person has decided how to place the TV in the bedroom, they can begin to select a product model. Currently, plasma, LCD, LED, OLED TV receivers, in which organic materials are used to construct the matrix, are more popular.
Some people want to have a small screen on the wall and modest characteristics of the device, others prefer huge screens, their price is an order of magnitude higher, which not everyone can afford.
There are some recommendations that tell you how to choose a TV for the bedroom.
The following should be taken into account:

  • Product diagonal. Its size depends on the distance between the TV and the place from which it is supposed to be watched. As the distance increases, the screen must be selected larger.
  • The technical side. These include:
  1. possibility of connecting cable television;
  2. game console;
  3. watching DVD;
  4. is there a built-in media player?
  5. presence of an interface.

At what height should the TV be located?

The height at which you need to place your TV depends on your viewing location. So, when watching programs while sitting, it must be positioned low enough.
There is a simple rule: the top third of the TV screen should be located exactly opposite the eyes of the person watching the device while sitting.

Tip: For selection optimal location, you need to sit in bed or in a chair, close your eyes and relax for a few seconds. Then the eyes open and you need to glance at the opposite wall, imagine that there is a picture pleasing to the eye.
The point where the gaze is directed is remembered. This should be the top third or center of the TV screen. A high-mounted TV screen, when viewed while sitting, has a harmful effect on vision and the spine.

When viewing the device while lying on the bed (see), the TV on the wall in the bedroom must be hung much higher, or even better, tilted towards the bed. You can use a bracket to mount the unit, which has the ability to change the angle of inclination and rotate.

It is acceptable to mount the TV on the ceiling in the bedroom when watching it while lying down.

How to beautifully place a TV in the bedroom

The TV area in the bedroom can become one of the main highlights of the interior. As a rule, a TV wall is an accent wall; it stands out from the entire space, which makes the interior more impressive.
To create an accent TV wall you can:

  • Cover the area with wallpaper that contrasts with the main finish, cover it with stone, complete decorative plaster, sheathe it with wooden dies, stick photo wallpaper.
  • The section of the wall where the TV will be placed can be framed with planks or moldings. It all depends on the style of the bedroom interior.
  • A section of the wall for equipment may not be allocated in a classic or minimalist bedroom. Here the device panel can be simply hung on an empty wall.
  • Under a product hanging on the wall, it can stand dressing table or nightstand. If the screen is located high, you can place an entire chest of drawers under it.
  • You don’t have to hang the TV, but install it on a cabinet. This option has its advantages. There is no need to hide the wires and arranging the socket is much simpler.
  • You can purchase it with a TV, which will be very convenient.
  • IN large bedroom, a TV receiver hanging on the wall can be “built” into a rack, as shown in the photo.
  • The product “disguised” as a painting looks good. In this case, you only need to make a frame around the screen.
  • The TV receiver is built into the wardrobe door or hung directly on it. This practical solution to save space in a small room.

The video in this article shows what options for placing TV receivers in the bedroom.

Over the past few years, flat-panel LCD or plasma TVs have almost completely replaced the good old “boxes”.

New devices delight with improved image quality and can significantly save space in the room, especially when placed on the wall. In this regard, the question arises, how and at what height is it better to hang the TV on the wall.

Principles of correct placement of devices in the interior

The main requirement that should be followed when determining a place for a TV is the comfort of all household members. It’s important that you don’t have to strain your eyes or sit in an awkward position while watching TV. Such leisure will bring nothing but pain in muscles and joints. Therefore, the first thing you need to do is to analyze where in the room the viewing will be carried out. There are no clear standards for placing equipment in a room; everything is purely individual.

You may notice that in most projects, TV panels are placed approximately at eye level. And only in public places where there is a lot of traffic or those present do not focus on the screen image, the equipment is used for the background and is located high under the ceiling.

Features of the location of the TV in the room

If we compare modern models with their predecessors, again it is obvious important advantage: LCD and plasma models do not blink, do not create interference or a threat to vision, which means they can be viewed from any distance. But for greater comfort and a convenient viewing angle, it is worth considering the formulas derived experimentally:

  • Distance between the device and the viewer. The distance between the viewer and the screen should be equal to 3-4 diagonal sizes. Therefore, even before purchasing equipment, it is worth calculating the screen size in accordance with the described formula;
  • Screen resolution. The brightness and clarity of the image depends on this indicator. Therefore, devices with low resolution should be placed further from the eyes, and vice versa;
  • Medical recommendations. According to doctors, the optimal recommended height for a TV on the wall is such that the middle of the screen is at a distance of 130-140 cm from the floor;
  • Proximity of location to other devices. Do not hang television panels near heating devices or in places exposed to direct sunlight.

Important! There are many design projects, where the plasma monitor is located above the fireplace. Therefore, the question inevitably arises: is it possible to hang a TV above the fireplace? It is possible if, after measuring the temperature, it turns out that hot air does not flow to the TV above the hot fireplace.

When thinking about the location of equipment in a kitchen or other small room, you need to understand that as the viewing angle changes, the quality of the picture on the screen may decrease. In other words, you need to find a location where you can watch it from anywhere. The best decision This issue is the use of special swivel brackets.

Before starting installation, you should compare the dimensions of the device with your capabilities:

  • For models weighing more than 25 kg, two people will be required. But it is best to entrust the installation issue to a specialist; since this is a rather expensive device, and it is important to fix it securely;
  • It is imperative to evaluate the condition of the wall to understand whether it can withstand such a load or not;
  • To ensure that installation on the wall goes without incident, you should familiarize yourself with the wire layout plan in advance so as not to snag the wiring during installation. Connection of television and Internet cables to the TV is carried out after completion of the work;
  • To maintain air circulation, and therefore prevent overheating of the device, there should be a distance of up to 20 cm between the TV and the wall.

TVs are often mounted in plasterboard niches. Externally, it looks stylish and modern, and the design itself allows you to save room space.

But it is only good if it is done wisely. The niche must be designed so that there is the space indicated above between the wall and the back wall, and the same gap between the side walls of the niche and the edges of the device.

This step will protect the device from overheating and rapid breakdown.

How to properly hang a TV at home

Before installing it on the wall, it is worth preparing materials and tools.

Advice: It is necessary to take into account the type of wall on which the installation will be carried out; the choice of fasteners will depend on this.

For concrete or brick, appropriate dowels are used, and for drywall, fasteners in the shape of a snail or butterfly are used. In this case, the self-tapping screw is screwed in with outside walls, and inside it opens like the wings of a butterfly, firmly anchored there. For wooden wall You will need long dowels measuring 30 mm or more.

After purchasing a special bracket, you should pay attention to the contents of the original packaging. Usually a mounting kit is included with the instructions. For attaching the bracket to the wall, you need:

Advice: Many models of brackets have a built-in water level on the mounting plate; in practice, it turns out that this is not always true. Therefore, it is better to prepare a regular building level.

Next comes the preparation of TV. It is necessary to place it on a soft surface so that the back surface is on top. Using a Phillips screwdriver, you can unscrew the stand. There are special holes on the back panel for attaching the bracket grooves. Once they are securely screwed, you can hang the device on the wall.

Attention: At this stage, you need to make sure that all the grooves fit into the holes intended for them on the plate. Now you can fix the last bolts and close them with decorative plugs.

Some models of brackets have a channel for cable exit, which makes it possible to conveniently hide unnecessary communications. However, if your model does not have such a device, then nylon clamps can be used for this purpose.

Types of brackets

For ease of use of the TV and reliable fixation of the monitor on the wall, it is important to select a bracket for mounting the TV, based on its characteristics and functions assigned to it.

There are three types of brackets:

  1. Unregulated. This mount ensures reliable fixation of the device to the wall. The design is best suited for large TVs that are not intended to be rotated or tilted during use;
  2. Oblique. These brackets allow you to change the orientation of the screen in the vertical plane, directing it up or down. They are suitable for medium-sized TVs;
  3. Rotary. The most movable design, allowing you to rotate the screen in any direction, both from right to left and from top to bottom. However, such support will not withstand heavy loads, so it is used only for small panels, and mainly in the kitchen.

Advice: In order not to make a mistake in choosing related devices, you should read the manufacturer’s recommendations or listen to the advice of consultants at points of sale. They will also tell you how to hang a TV on a wall with a bracket.

Wires and sockets

To avoid unnecessary accumulation of wires under the TV, which interfere, get confused and spoil the overall picture of the interior, the issue of communications should be thought through in advance.

An ideal option in whichheight of sockets reserved for TV on the wallequal to the height corresponding to the middle of the screen. Then the wires will automatically disappear behind the television panel. However, if it is not possible to change the location of the outlets, then you can consider other options that are convenient from both an aesthetic and practical point of view:

  • IN plasterboard wall You can cut holes for exiting wires and cables. The advantages of this method are speed of execution and complete absence of construction waste;
  • Regardless of the material the wall is made of, you can build a cable box on top of it. If you cover the box with the same finish as on the wall, it will become almost invisible;

Useful video

It turns out that in order to hang a TV on the wall, you need to decide whole line questions. These include choosing a TV panel that matches the size of the room, calculating the installation height of the TV and its distance from viewers, and methods of mounting it on the wall. To make your task easier, you can seek help from professionals who will do this work quickly and efficiently.

(led TV, 3D HD TV) - these are convenient and modern, but their operation has revealed new problem– how, in addition to installing it on a shelf and bedside table, to install the device, at what height to hang the TV, and what design of fasteners can be used for this. Therefore, the question automatically arose - how to calculate the height that will be comfortable and safe for viewing, and how to calculate the safest distance to the screen. Mathematical calculations are not very appropriate here, but practical tips and advice from professionals will come in handy.

At what height to hang the TV - position calculation

For the sake of comfortable rest and watching TV shows, in fact, a TV is bought, but for each room the height of its placement will be different. Why and at what height is it better to hang the monitor? Watching programs in the kitchen rather turns into listening, so the height of the screen is not very critical, and in the kitchen the television panel is hung above the design height so that it does not interfere with work. This type of mount does not cause discomfort when watching programs.

To decide at what height to hang the TV in the living room, they start from maximum viewing comfort. Medical studies have proven that the most optimal way is to mount the TV so that the distance from the bottom edge of the screen to the floor is 0.75-1 m.

Doctors also give practical advice on how to intuitively calculate the distance from the viewer to the TV screen. To do this, sit in the place from which you plan to watch TV, close your eyes, and after a minute open them. Where your gaze immediately falls is the middle of the screen.

At what height should I hang the TV on the wall in the bedroom? The recommended mounting height of the panel will be slightly higher than in the hall or living room, and you can determine the placement point of the device in the same way as with the previous solution, only lying on the bed. The main rule when calculating the mounting height of a television panel is your viewing comfort.

IN modern models On TVs, the picture does not flicker, and the screen does not emit electromagnetic waves, that is, it does not pose a danger to the eyes. Therefore, you can watch LCD or plasma TV at any convenient distance, and installing the TV on the wall is possible in any case. But the optimal ratio of the TV diagonal (diagonal is the distance between the corners of the screen) and the distance from it to the viewers’ eyes still exists. The distance that doctors recommend setting when watching TV is 3-4 times the diagonal size of the device. Therefore, when purchasing, proceed from the size of the room in which the TV will be located.

Nowadays television receivers have different screen resolutions. HDTV receivers are televisions with a resolution of 1080p, which transmit images much clearer and brighter than devices with a resolution of 720p. Therefore, when choosing and purchasing an LED or 3D panel, take into account the screen resolution.

  1. When calculating at what height to hang a TV in the living room, the distance to the TV receiver with a resolution of 720p should be equal to the screen diagonal size multiplied by a factor of 2.3.
  2. The distance from a 1080p TV to the viewer should be equal to the screen diagonal size multiplied by a factor of 1.56.

The distance comfortable for the eyes from a plasma panel is from three to four screen diagonals, for a liquid crystal monitor - from two to three diagonals.

Example: It is recommended to watch a 42-inch TV at a distance of 84-126 (for LCD model) or 126-168 inches (for plasma model), or 210-320 cm and 320-430 cm.

At what height should you hang the TV in the living room?

When placing a TV in a living room or living room, take into account how many people will be watching it. To calculate the most the best place for TV, consult with everyone, but do not forget about scientific approach. If you intend to install the TV on the wall in the living room and watch it from a chair or on the sofa, then it is best to hang the panel at a height of about a meter (0.7-1.4 m), based on the arithmetic average height of all family members.

If you haven’t purchased a TV yet, then you have a good opportunity to experiment: take a poster the size of your future TV, and use scientific poking to find that one. optimal height panels that are suitable for all family members.

If the living room is large, then install the TV low from the floor level - this will make it more convenient for everyone to watch the screen - both children on the floor and adults on the sofa or in armchairs. The recommended height for mounting a shelf or bracket for a TV panel is calculated from the height of the upholstered furniture in the living room. That is, the higher the sofa or armchairs, the higher the TV should be installed.

At what height should you hang the TV in the bedroom?

In any room, the height of the TV mount depends on the size of the furniture on which you will watch the TV. Therefore, at what height to hang a TV in the bedroom depends on the size (height) of the bed. How to calculate height? Just as in the previous case, the installation height of the TV in the bedroom is determined as follows: lie on the bed in a position that is comfortable for you (as if you are looking at the TV screen) and close your eyes, and after a minute open them. Where the eye immediately falls is where the center of the screen should be.

Practice shows that in the bedroom the TV must be hung higher than in the living room, so apply one more rule here: the angle of deviation from the center of the screen to the viewer’s eyes should not be more than 30 0. This rule is recommended to prevent curvature of the spine.

Special fastenings for brackets that come with the kit help to adjust the deflection angle very well. hanging shelves or brackets. These mounts change the angle of the screen plane. It is recommended to use brackets that adjust the TV body in two planes.

What height is needed to install a TV in the kitchen?

In the kitchen, maintaining a comfortable TV installation height (the middle part of the screen should be at eye level) is difficult due to the usual small area premises. In addition, cooking leaves almost no time for watching, and usually people listen to TV. Hence the question: at what height from the floor should I hang the TV in the kitchen?

An LCD TV with a TFT matrix in the kitchen is great, since it has a wide viewing angle horizontally with an almost imperceptible decrease in contrast. But changing the viewing angle vertically will lead to darkness (rotate down) or brighten the screen (rotate up). Therefore, at what distance it is optimal to place the monitor in the kitchen is obvious: at the height from which TV is most often watched, and this can be structurally solved by rotating the bracket for each case. Adjusting the angle of rotation with the bracket will allow you to adjust the angle of inclination and viewing, which means you can watch the TV from any position.

How and at what height to hang a TV in a brick house. The video shows how to install securely wall mount Vogels type with detailed instructions for assembly and installation of brackets. Place of installation: old building, brick walls, a decrepit layer of plaster. The wall is crumbling, so for strength, a couple of additional holes were made for attaching the bracket.
